As we all know that Intune has gained a lot of buzz during recent past . Today , We will discuss about How do we install Client Intune Agent on Computers .

Client Computer Management in Intune

There are two ways by which you can do this :

1 . Manually : Here you will have to download the Intune Client Software and then Install It . Please make sure that only one client agent can be installed on one computer , either SCCM Client or Intune . If you already have SCCM Client agent installed you won’t be able to install Intune Client .

2. Automatically : You can use software Distribution Programs for this .

How to Manually Install Intune Client on Computer :

First of all you need to download the Client Agent Which can be downloaded from the Intune Portal :

Intune Client Agent Installation - 1

Intune Client Agent Installation – 1

Once Downloaded you need to run the set up

Intune Client Agent Installation - 2

Intune Client Agent Installation - 3

After the Installation is Complete you will see the Client Computer Showing up in the Intune Console like this :

Intune Client Agent Installation - 4

After the Initial Hardware Inventory Cycle you will be able to see Hardware related Information related to this Computer as Shown :

A lot of times you would find people confused over what is the difference between role and Feature in Windows Server .

Lets make it more clear today .

Server Roles as per Technet is : “Server role is a set of software programs that, when they are installed and properly configured, lets a computer perform a specific function for multiple users or other computers within a network. Generally, roles share the following characteristics.”

  • They describe the primary function, purpose, or use of a computer. A specific computer can be dedicated to perform a single role that is heavily used in the enterprise, or may perform multiple roles if each role is only lightly used in the enterprise.
  • They provide users throughout an organization access to resources managed by other computers, such as Web sites, printers, or files that are stored on different computers.
  • They typically include their own databases that can queue user or computer requests, or record information about network users and computers that relates to the role. For example, Active Directory Domain Services includes a database for storing the names and hierarchical relationships of all computers in a network.
  • As soon as they are properly installed and configured, roles function automatically. This allows the computers on which they are installed to perform prescribed tasks with limited user commands or supervision.

So , a role can be treated as a bigger function that lets a Computer perform a specific function .

A list of Server roles are :

  • Windows AD/DC Server,
  • DNS,
  • DHCP,
  • File,
  • Print,
  • NAP,
  • Terminal Server,
  • IIS,
  • WDS,
  • WSS

Feature : on the other hand feature are add ons which can support or augment the functionality of one or more roles, or improve the functionality of the server, regardless of which roles are installed.

A list of Features in Server are :

  • .NET,
  • Bitlocker Encryption,
  • BITS,
  • Remote Assistance,
  • SMTP Server,
  • SNMP,
  • telnet server & client,
  • failover,
  • NLB,
  • TFTP,
  • Windows Server Backup,
  • WINS,
  • Powershell

If you are a consumer on a device running Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, or the Windows 8.1 Preview – this page on Windows.com will detect your OS and provide you with all the information you need in order to get Windows 8.1 on your device.

Microsoft has officially Informed that :

To celebrate the new Windows, starting today for the next 8 days – we will pick 810 (see what we did there?) random winners per day who tweet and share their new Start screen after updating their Windows 8 device to Windows 8.1 with the #MyStarthashtag.

Start the way you want. The Start screen in Windows 8.1 is more customizable than ever with new tile sizes, new background designs and colors – allowing you to make the Start screen on your device unique and personal to you (you should see some of the color combinations I’ve come up with for my Start screen!). You can also choose how you start your Windows experience – at the Start screen or the desktop. The Start button is back. And there is an improved Apps view that allows you to see all your apps the way you want.

Split Screen Four Apps

Multi-tasking is even better in Windows 8.1 – you can now have up to four apps side by side with flexible windows sizing for each app on the screen. At a minimum, I usually have 3 apps snapped side by side on my devices doing various things like email, listening to music and browsing the web. We have also improved multi-monitor support in Windows 8.1 allowing users to view their desktop or apps from the Windows Store on any or all their monitors.

Bing Smart Search

Bing Smart Search is the easiest way to find what you are looking for and to get things done. Built for touch, swipe or type from the Start screen and Smart Search will find what you need – whether it’s a document on your PC, a photo album in the cloud, your favorite app, or a website.

WHY SCCM ?

A lot of Help desk engineers ( who wish to learn the tool ” SCCM ” ) and new SCCM admins ask me this question : “Why do we use SCCM Server ”

My Answer to them is ”

Example # 1:  Suppose the CIO or the IT Manager ask you that he wants you to deploy a software on HR users machine . Now !! here is the Catch . Let us say that your company is spread across the globe( UK , US , ASIA  etc etc ) . now being a Systems engineer you will be in a shock .

My Answer to this is using SCCM 🙂 . images (1)You may use software deployment feature of SCCM to achieve this !!

Example # 2: Let us say that the IT Manager or CIO wants to see the list of all the computers which have a specific software xyz installed on it .

” How do i do this  ”

My Answer to this is using SCCM 🙂       images (1). Using SCCM Reporting 1.e hardware Inventory

Example # 3 : Let us say recently you company recruited 500 people ( 100 in India , 100 in US , 100 in UK , 100 in Norway , 100 in Singapore ) . Now the CIO wants all these machines to have the OS and Company’s mandatory applications installed on them . How do we perform this .

My Answer to this is using SCCM 🙂  images (1). Using Operating system Deployment feature of SCCM .

Similarly there are many other features that SCCM provide .
