Yepp !! Those who are still running SCCM 2007 R2 + subsequent versions can still Manage Windows 8.1 and Windows 2012 R2 with their Versions of SCCM . However there are some restrictions  Like you cannot do OSD .

 

Features that are supported are :

  • Software distribution
  • Software update management
  • Desired configuration management

Well !! To achieve this all you have do to is :  Download and apply this hotfix :

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 2 installed.

Restart information

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this update.

Note We recommend that you close Configuration Manager Administration Console before you apply this update package.

  1. Do you need to install this only on the managment point or also on DP’s?
    Need to upgrade or fix the sccm client on 8.1 systems with this hotfix?

    Only mention it needs a restart afetr apliying the KB, at least in our environment.

    I have installed the client and deploying the packages successfully, but I was unable to pull the hardware inventory.. any guess
